Dr. Cotton is a board-certified anesthesiologist with experience in clinical medicine, corporate healthcare, and medical research. She practices at a major trauma hospital in Dallas, Texas and holds a PhD in molecular genetics from UT Southwestern. When she learned that the first Lafora Safety Study was underway at UTSW, she knew she wanted to contribute.

With an MD, PhD, and MBA, Dr. Cotton brings a diverse skill set to the Chelsea’s Hope Board of Directors. In 2016, she sold her medical practice to US Anesthesia Partners (USAP), a physician-owned, national anesthesia company. She was elected to the Clinical Governance Board for USAP in North Texas in 2020, where she helps ensure high-quality, fiscally responsible patient care.

Outside of her professional work, Dr. Cotton is passionate about promoting the role of women in medicine. She counsels underrepresented youth on career development and serves as an “experience ambassador” for USAP’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She was also an adjunct professor at UTSW Medical School and Graduate School, receiving 14 consecutive annual awards for teaching molecular pharmacology. As an advocate for healthcare policy, Dr. Cotton served as a delegate for the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists (TSA) for seven years, contributing to the TSA’s Patient Safety Board and Practice Management Council. Most recently, she joined the TSA Government Affairs Advisory Committee for 2025.

Throughout her career, Dr. Cotton has held numerous leadership roles spanning medicine, business, and policy. Her experience in financial risk, corporate governance, scientific research and medicine brings a unique perspective to the Board, where she aspires to advance the organization’s mission, supporting high-quality research, translating scientific findings into meaningful clinical advancements, and bringing hope to Lafora families.

Dr. Cotton has three daughters and resides in Dallas, Texas with her husband and two German Shepherds.
