Kim Rice’s Parent Diary: December 2013
It has been a hellish 6 weeks for us. First Kristen contracted a urinary tract infection (UTI) and then 3 weeks ago, she was hospitalized in acute respiratory distress and given a 30% chance of living through the night. Then 10 days ago, she was enrolled in Hospice and given Phenobarbital to stop the seizures which were by almost constant, day and night. We were told there was a good chance the amount of phenobarb necessary to stop the seizures might also stop her breathing, so we said goodbye again. Ever since starting the phenobarb she has been sleeping peacefully, thank God. Now we have no idea how long this might yet go on.Having said good-bye twice in the past month, our heads and hearts are spinning.
